The conference was a Celebration of International Disabled People’s Day in partnership with Race for Health and was sponsored by Equality and Human Rights Commission.

The conference provided an opportunity to discuss real action and provided tools in how to apply impact assessments and measure outcomes. Whilst demonstrating the promotion, inclusion and implementation of Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), United Convention on the Rights of Disabled People, Include Me TOO Charter in conjunction with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and Every Child Matters framework.

The participants were given an insight provided directly from disabled children, young people and adults and parents and carers of their experiences and day to day lives.

This was invaluable as it assisted practitioners, policy and decision makers to have a two way discussion and review practical methods to meet local and national requirements impacting on service delivery, policy and practice.

The conference provided information how to build upon existing practice and respond effectively to the needs of Black and Ethnic and other marginalised communities (BME) disabled children and young people. To ensure high inclusive, anti discriminatory and rights promoting standards are being met. The principles and guidance how to implement this were made available at the event.
